The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is the programme covering the period between 2007 and 2013 and is set up by the EU in order to fund and promote European research and technological development. The specific objectives that fall under this project are the following:

  • To gain leadership in key scientific and technology areas;
  • To stimulate the creativity and excellence of European research;
  • To develop and strengthen the human potential of European research; and
  • To enhance research and innovation capacity throughout Europe.
FP7 is beneficial for SMEs:
  • As it targets research within multi-partner consortia;
  • To fund the outsourcing of research and development projects to competent research   partners;
  • For Incoming and Outgoing Fellowships; 
  • To increase productivity and turnover;
  • To increase competitivety:
  • To access to new markets;
  • To create new products, processes, and/or services;
  • To organize conferences, studies and exchange of best practice.

The overall budget for FP7 is approximately 50,521 million. Further information about FP7 maybe be found on http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/home_en.html. Information on a national level may be found on the Malta Council for Science and Technology website www.mcst.gov.mt which is the National Contact Point for FP7 in Malta

 
The three specific programmes in the CIP framework are:

  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme;
  • ICT Policy Support Programme;
  • Intelligent Energy-Europe Programme.

The CIP will complement other major programmes covering cohesion activities, research, technological development and demonstration activitiesand lifelong learning.
